I had a client ask me to work with them outside of upwork. I have never worked with them before. Is this a bad idea? What would you suggest I do in this situation? Is it safe to work with other people outside of the network?

I appreciate any of your thoughts or past experience with situations like this.

It is a bad idea.

Discussing work outside the platform could get your account suspended.

Agreeing to do so could get you permanently banned from using Upwork.

Is it safe to work with other people outside of the network?

If you're refering to personal emails back and forth, phone/Skype conversations/communications and transfering files and work back and forth, then, yes, it's safe.

But if you're talking about financial transactions, such as I'll send you a check, or I'll deposit money into your PayPal aaccount. And if you're talking about being hired just by the clients word of mouth (You're hired or I'm hiring you, you can start work) then absolutly NO it's not safe.

Hiring and financial transactions MUST take place on this site, everything else can be done off site.
