For any fellow freelancers who use Quickbooks to do their bookkeeping:
What method do you use to record your Upwork income in QB? Upwork has it's own invoicing system, different from that which you might use for other non-Upwork clients.
Do you create a new invoice, sales receipt, or bank deposit for each Upwork payment?
Do you reference the individual Upwork invoices to which that deposit is corresponding?
Thanks!

I use Freshbooks, which is similar. I create a dummy invoice in FB for every Upwork invoice and record a payment against the invoice as of the date the money's available in my UW account as well as an expense for the service fee. This helps me in a few ways.
1) it makes it very easy to deal with taxes
2) it helps track my revenue and overall expense ratio
3) I have a few clients who want a more detailed invoice than what UW can provide, usually so they can break down my billing across their clients or for their expense reimbursement process. In these cases, I can send the dummy invoice to them (clearly marked "payment through Upwork").
