Hi,
I just came across these job postings. **Edited for Community Guidelines**
I think these are very rude especially without providing any context. I strongly feel such clients should not be allowed to use the platform.
Thanks,
Sneh

edited out links, basically in both cases clients stated "No XXXXX" (people with a certain nationality)

Sneh, I agree it is rude and if flagged, those will be taken down.
BUT - those clients will then re.post the jobs without the rude part, but will not hire anyone from that demographic anyway, so it will simply lead to freelancers from that demographic to waste their connects.

Who knows what that person means. Maybe he just means he prefers to hire Indian girls.
But I know what you feel. The other day, a talent specialist advised me to apply to a job. I tried to, but then couldn't because it was one of those jobs available to Americans only. Being told to your face that you are not wanted is never very pleasant.

It's disgraceful, but Petra is right about reposting. At the end of the day we never know what is in someone's heart when they prefer a specific location or area. It's extremely valid - and not racist - to prefer someone for language, proximity and time zone reasons. Of course anyone could use those reasons to cover their more vile motives. That said and it's impossible and I'd think undesirable to try. As it is here, UW took the correct action by taking down the postings. It will happen again but at least we won't have to worry or complain about UW over it as obviously they see it for what it is and have a policy in place. That's all we can ask for.

I think it is screamingly clear what that person means and I cringed when I saw where those two clients were from. It once again made me ashamed of a sector of the people who live in the country (and it's friend and neighbour) I was born in and reminded me why I do not live there anymore.

That is not the same at all. It is just fine to express a regional preference or make that a requirement.
That is totally not the same as saying "No Blondes" or "No Italians" or "No white people" or "No females."

I agree with you Petra, freelancers will end up wasting their connects 😕
This is unfortunate but I am happy that the community feels the same way about this. 🙂
Thanks for looking into this.
