Recommended jobs and how to filter them

Hi everybody,

I was wondering how Upwork finds recommended jobs, based on what criteria? E.g. I am interested in translation jobs in the 3 languages I speak, but I get a lot that require a particular language I do not speak and even state it as a required skill. Or I get "Full Stack" development jobs with required technical skills that I do not posess (and haven't checked in my profile that I do, nor have I accepted similar jobs). There are seveal other recommended jobs like that.

Is there some way to exclude skills from the search results?

Thanks!

My theory is that if a single word in the client's job description matches a single word in your profile, they throw you into a hat with thousands of other freelancers who also have one or more matching words and then randomly choose some without actually checking to see whether you are even working in the right industry.

Unfortunately I think that is an absolutely useless function. Half of the jobs do not correspond to my expertise, others are published a while ago.

I never even look at it.
