Refunding A Client Options

I've been working on a video for a client. The situation:

1) It's set up in 2 milestones:

-50% upfront

-50% of final delivery

2) the first 50% has been paid to me and transfered.

3) I was chosen based on a sample reel of my work in a certain style.

I delivered the first half of the video (as promised), and he had a list of complaints. Some were fair, in that the first draft wasn't as detailed as later drafts will be.

Some complaints were unfair, in that the elements on the video were the same as shown in the reel. Quality wasn't misrepresnted.

If we can't bridge this expectation gap, what are my options here?

To me, the "fair" solution is a 50% return of the first milestone. But if this is done, can they still leave a bad review? Does it affect my Job Completion Score?

Other options:

-refund in full (hurts as time and effort was spent for a month)

-If half refund still hurts reviews and JSS, offer imrpovements in line with the samples, and say that's what was offered, no refund?

Just trying to feel out my options here, I want a satisfactory conclusion, but full refund hurts considering their expectations are out of line in some ways.

Cheers
