Refunding a part of approved budget in the Escrow.. affects JJS?

Hello to you all!

I can not remember if I read about this somewhere or was it just my imagination.. anyways the situation goes as follows:

- Had a job with a client and then he/she decides to send me a small bonus.
- Client accidentally sends the bonus two times.
- In the mean-time client also sends an offer for another job that has milestone funded.
- I agree with the client that we can just deduct the bonus from the budget of the new job to compensate for the small error.
- I approve the reduction of the money in the Escrow.

Does this situation influence JSS?

I looked around a bit, but I could not find the answer or I just can not see it because my head is pulsating from the recent cold I have Smiley Indifferent

No, partial refunds of escrow do not affect JSS.

Oh, okay, that is good.. good. haha

Thank you for the quick answer! I was already wondering if I did a mistake on my part since we would easily sort out the things with the next job.

Could you please help me out with one more thing?

It is regarding an invite that I got from someone claiming to be "Upwork Talent Specialist". I checked for the profile by the name of the person signed at the bottom.. and saw "Private Talent Cloud" listed on the side.

What exactly can I make of this? Smiley Happy

The only similar thing I encounter earlier is a manager that handled the job organization/communication with the freelancer instead of the client. Is this the same thing? And is it really official from the Upwork`s side?

Thank you Ryan, but Tiffany was faster! haha

Since you did send that link, I would like to ask you a question.. not to spam the board with all of my topics at once.

One of my contracts is still open/paused/suspended - Refer to these two topics:
- Is the contract paused or suspended?
- Client does not want to end the contract/Keeps asking for free work

Sooo.. will that contract remain open indefinitely? Because I am pretty sure that 3 months have passed since:
- The contract started
- The 2 weeks for escrow funds to be released after I had submitted milestone
- The report towards the client

If the client has abandoned ship just end the contract yourself. Contracts with suspended clients are excluded from your JSS.

If I only knew if the client is actually suspended haha
The only information offered by UpWork was that client has an issue with his/her account.

Anyways, I was keeping up with that advice you gave me, to wait a bit longer... to some extent because I also wanted to see what happens after 3 months have passed Smiley Very Happy

But! But.. 3 months did pass and nothing happened, hence the question - What the heck UpWork? Smiley Very Happy

Go to your Contracts. Click on the contract.

Does it say

unverified.jpg?

If yes, the client is (currently) suspended.

Nope. It does not say anywhere that the payment method is unverified, it is still just that it is "suspended" and that Upwork is investigating an issue. The original job posting also confirms to me that client`s payment method is verified with that little green check mark icon on the side haha

I have attached screenshot from the contract with all the relevant information hidden ๐Ÿ™‚

Just close the contract and be done with it. It won't do you any good hanging there forever.....

Ah.. the joy of being punished for 5$ job and playing by the rules, lovely Upwork. Should have handled that one on my own Smiley Very Happy

Would the before mentioned top-rated status help me out with this, that perk for removing feedback every 3 months?

I think not since the job would be close on my part and not by the client/automatically... but still, I guess it is best to check with someone more experienced. Smiley Happy

If you were top rated and had not used the perk then of course you could use it IF YOU HAD to.

Alas, you aren't so you can't. Why not wait to see if it DOES affect you first? It clearly hasn't so far.

At the moment, I am at 13 (Hopefully 14 after tomorrow) out of 16 weeks for the Top Rated status with the only left requirement being to have earnings of at least 1000$ in the last year, correct?

So I was thinking - Get the top-rated thing... and then close both of the inactive contracts [I have two]. Would that cripple me, what do you think? Smiley Very Happy

Btw, thank you very much for answering all of my questions. I appreciate it a lot! Smiley Happy

This is what I would do:

  1. Wait until you are top rated.
  2. Close the older one of the two
  3. Get some more contracts and finish them successfully
  4. See if closing one has any effect on your JSS
  5. If no, leave it be, finish some more contracts
  6. Then close the other
  7. Wait and see if that has a significant impact.
  8. If No, leave it be (and save your perk for a real disaster)
  9. If yes, use your perk.

I agree. ๐Ÿ™‚

The only thing I might alter is to leave the second contract run past the 3 months mark because I can see that the client has a lot of contracts with no feedback left. That should come in handy if it gets automatically closed (I think).

Once more, thank you very much Petra for all of your answers and suggestions. Much appreciated. ๐Ÿ™‚

It won't be automatically closed unless there are funds in Escrow

Well, I was living in an illusion. I thought it gets closed after 90 days of idle status no matter what.

Thanks for pointing that out. ๐Ÿ™‚
