Hi everyone,
I would like to let you know that this process has been deprecated, and completing the Re-Skilling for Success Learning Path will no longer lift any suspensions on your account. While we do still recommend you complete the Learning Path as it has valuable information for your freelancing success, please know that the relevant next steps or actions needed to lift a suspension on your account will always be on the email you received from our team. If you have any questions about your account suspension, please reply to the team directly, as they are the ones who can best assist you.
With this in mind, I'll be closing this thread from further replies as it is no longer relevant.
Thank you!

I received a message from upwork to take the reskilling learning path to get my profile restored. I took it on the 30th of August, and Upwork support promised to restore the account on 5th August 2024 23:59PT. So, today is 6th August and the account has not been restored. Any ideas on what I can do. I can't message support and I've been told to be patient by the bot, however being out of action for 1 week plus is making me cringe. Please, any help?

Dear Support/Concerned Team,
I received a notification on Monday, August 5th, 2024, stating that my ability to apply for new projects was restricted due to issues identified by recent clients. The notification mentioned that access would be restored the Monday after completing the "Re-Skilling for Success" learning path.
I completed the re-skilling course on the same day, August 5th, 2024. However, my account is still restricted, and the Monday has already passed. Could you please look into this matter and help restore my access as soon as possible?
Thank you for your prompt attention to this issue.
Best regards,
Saira Umair

Hi Pradeep H,
I've received the restriction again, despite completing the Reskilling for Success course. Could this be a bug on my Upwork profile? Please look into it and remove the restriction immediately.

Hello Abrar,
I'm sorry if that was confusing but I want to clarify that this isn't a bug. You were required to complete the course again. I can see you've already completed it, so your account will be automatically resumed next Monday.

So does up work now allow scammers to "counter-report" you after they get reported for scamming or something?
Seems like a system that would drive away freelancers. No wonder I've had to like repair so many jobs done by obvious hacks.
If you refuse to give someone free work they just start complaining about your account?
Aug 26, 2024 02:34:04 AM by Sterling K
To be clear about this guy, he has floated around sites before.
He pretends to be an american but lives some where else which yuo can tell by the fact that he is only available on IST.
He shows you the same picture of an "api" he needs to be working on. It's the same picture for years. I've seen and met this guy on this site and others. When people scam, they don't just limit it to upwork. However, he may occasionally spend money to appear like a professional.
I treated him with all due respect as if he weren't a scammer. I answered his questions knowing full well I was going to report him and that he was going to not show up. I even kept saying, hey you do realize my rate is 75 right? He kept laughing it off like his average pay out was not 20$.
Same guy. Same picture of the same geofence api. I even mention it loudly like "how did this guy read the screen so fast."
I didn't. I know this scammer.
He's on every freelance site.
I complain to support and they think I'm just complaining so I have to reskill?
This is how people like me go back to niche sites where you can't access my level of skill anymore and you guys have to live with people who don't even know how to do patterns.
Aug 26, 2024 02:34:59 AM by Sein M
Wow, what happened Sterling? My understanding is requesting free work can result in an immedate ban. Did you start a ticket after flagging or what happened?
Aug 26, 2024 03:00:01 AM by Sterling K
I flagged his account and emailed support. 1 minute after support says they are sorry I ran into this guy I get hit with an email asking me to reskill. So that means the support staff guy or him filed a counter report on my account. To be clear, I'm top ranked on linked in from 5%-30% on 10 languages.
We get a lot of these developers who took jobs they can't handle and suddenly need a consulting they can't pay for from someone like me. They'll post fake job after fake job on this site until someone like me answers. I'd see him post for two days and previously reported the duplicate posts so I decided to see what was going on and sent in a bid.
Sure enough, it was the same scammer. I'd seen him on freelancer. I'd seen him on reddit. I do not see guys like this on Hired when it was active or other niche sites. Nope, they actually take care of their talent there. Hired went down because of other reasons -- it had too good of a talent list and got bought out by a agency - lol. Sad times but that was smart of them. Gather a bunch of good talent and then sell the db.
So these guys try to get ahold of high level talent like me because they are desperate. As I had run into this guy several times before as he seems to do this a lot I made several statements that I knew he couldn't deal with.
I mentioned my pay grade, are you sure you can pay 500-600 dollars for such a trivial task? Yes, he said. Yes ys!
I said then, ok. Go ahead and put down an escrow. I will keep myself available at the time we agree on.
Suddenly, he had to go. Suddenly, he would get back to me.
Do you understand?
Aug 26, 2024 03:15:40 AM by Sein M
Thanks Sterling, I think I understand. Did you make a repsonse or ask for clarification?
Aug 26, 2024 03:23:40 AM by Sterling K
I have filed a ticket with multiple responses and also pinged the ticket from when it happened earlier this month. I've run into a string of "desperato" clients whose projects are melting (you can see in my work history -- "emergency projects") and it seems that it may have been due to their spiteful nature and inability to work with developers.
I hope support quickly responds and fixes it. I know they often get overwhelmed with requests.
