Hi, i wish to ask that my profile in currently move towards the process of getting my job success score and the 'rising talents' badge is remove from my profile.
Previously, when i'm still have the 'rising talents' badges, i'm get job easier and being invite to submit proposal. But i'm not sure why currently im on my way to get my JSS, it's harder to get job. Every job i'm looking for is not meet the qualification in 'rising talents' and also the 'at least 90% JSS'. it's like back to the newbie status.
I wonder is't is a normal situation that i do not get any job for now until i get my JSS? Because most of the proposal i'm almost doing the same way like previous job proposal.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Hi Dusko,
I believe this is what you've been looking for: https://support.upwork.com/hc/en-us/articles/211063228-Become-a-Rising-Talent
As Rising Talent, you must:
and so forth.
It is designed for newbies and it is never too soon to get it - I got mine a couple of days after I joined Upwork.

Hi Poh Yee,
I see that you've completed 4 jobs. If those were for at least 3 different clients, you'll get your JSS this Sunday. Most probably - unless the contract without public feedback resulted in poor private feedback (but I believe you would have lost the rising talent status earlier if that was the case) it will be 90%+, and everything will be just as it was when you were a rising talent.
May 12, 2017 02:29:57 AM by Poh Yee N
Hi Valentina,
Thanks for reply! All my feedback is in public and among the feedback i had one client do not provide the feedback is due to some of the misunderstand between us and cause the project is not able to continue. I had follow up with the client and he is not response to me but in the end, he had paid me for my work. I just wonder will this kind of feedback will affect my JSS?

Hi Valentina,
I wonder why i haven't get my JSS yet. I thought i'll get on last sunday, but seems not. Is that any problem happen on my profile? Thanks.
Regards,
Poh Yee.

Hi Poh Yee,
It looks like a few of your contracts were with same clients and you haven't yet received enough feedback from distinct clients for your Job Success score to be calculated.
You can find more information about how Job Success score is calculated here.

Hi Valeria,
i thought i had complete 3 jobs from 3 different clients? By the way, thanks for your reply,

Poh Yee,
A freelancers needs to complete at least 4 contracts with feedback from 3 different clients in order for their JSS to be calculated.

Hi Poh Yee,
I agree that you'll probably get a Job Success Score this Sunday after 12pm UTC time. In the meantime, feel free to submit proposals for jobs that include the preference you noted, provided you have the required skill set to complete the job successfully. Your proposal will be displayed to clients and you can get hired on these jobs.

Didn't you say it now needed 5 completed jobs rather than 4 recently?
I think the reason for the loss of Rising Talent may have more to do with the "no feedback" contract than getting a JSS....
May 12, 2017 02:37:51 AM by Poh Yee N
Hi Petra,
I'm not sure how the system work but as i know i had work on 5 jobs.
3 Jobs - complete - with feedback
1 job - in progress
1 job - complete - no feedback given.
Possibly like you said, maybe because the client not give me the feedback and cause me lose the rising talent badge?
May 12, 2017 04:29:15 AM Edited May 12, 2017 04:30:02 AM by Vladimir G
Hi Petra,
To clarify, freelancers can get a JSS even after completing less than five contracts, as long as those contracts were created by three different clients. I posted before that most freelancers will get the score after completing 5 contracts, and others after completing less or more than that.

Vladimir G., I have had more than three contracts and they were created by three different clients, so why is it that I still don't have a JSS? Nor have I ever recieved a rising talent badge!
Apparently the systems has it flaws.
May 12, 2017 05:43:49 AM by Vladimir G
Hi Veerle,
Please note that not all contracts are the same and you'll need to complete one or two more contracts in order to get a Job Success Score. Also, the Rising Talent status is assigned to users automatically and not all users are recognized by the system as eligible for this status. Note that completing contracts on Upwork is not a requirements, but your performance on Upwork can affect your eligibility. Please note that we can't share specific information regarding the Job Success Score calculation and you can find a full list of requirements for becoming a Rising Talent in this Help article.

Hi Vladimir,
I'm glad to hear that because i had get no jobs within these two weeks. It's quite frustrate also since i'm trying to work hard and bid on the project. I'm regret in not asking this problems earlier and cause me not much 'connects' left. Thanks anyway!

Hello fellow upworkers,
You guys are so lucky to have your 'rising talents' badge. I had the misfortune that my first contract was never finished. I got paid as it was funded in Escrow, but it was never ended by the client. All my following projects have been good and I had excellent reviews throughout. It is really disturbing that this client has messed things up for me. I don't know how I can solve this issue.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Veerle,
We have the same problem which is one of my contract was never finished (I don't think it's finished since the client is not response me in the half way). I'm also same with you got paid because it was funded in Escrow, and the contract also end by me, and because of that i'm lose my badge 'rising talents' maybe.
How long you work in Upwork? I saw your profile have several job history, how can you not get your Job Success Score(JSS) even if had skip the rising talent badge process? Actually i'm not so sure about the system. But basically if follow the requirement state should be a found a solution.
May 12, 2017 04:03:37 AM by Veerle M
Hi Poh Yee
I've been here for about four months. I also find the system dubious. I'm a dedicated professional who has been working hard to always sumit quality work. Therefore my reviews have always been excellent. But then one client messes it up for me and it shouldn't be like that. It is unfair and shows an utter lack of respect from the client. But apparently you can't do anything about which is very frustrating. I wish Upwork would change the system or at least give me advice as to how to get out of this mess. Very disturbing and it makes it hard to find jobs.
I hope this discussion will provide us with some answers.

Nothing is perfect, and Upwork does have it's flaws. Of course "Rising Talent" and "Top Rated" are great designations. However, we as Freelancers are not in total control of what occurs with them. All we can do is our very best; after that "it is what it is." If it's any consolation, I've found during my over 3 years tenure on oDesk/Upwork that those designations don't appear to be as important as many seem to consider them to be. When they disappear or decrease (and they will) don't lose sleep over it.

Well, Pat M. I don't really agree with your point of view. There's always room for human error, but this works with axioms. As Vladimir G. stated, if certain conditions have been met, then you receive a certain badge, name or whatever. As much as I don't really fancy it all that much, clients rather seem to base themselves on this to hire freelancers. And afterall, Upwork is taking 20% of our pay, so they should deliver a quality service, in the same way as the client expects a professional service from my part.
It's actually all quite simple.

Veerle, of course I understand what you're saying. Perhaps you'd better understand my statement of "it is what it is" after reading 100's if not 1,000's of posts pertaining to this subject. Bottom line-we're not trees. If we don't like something, we're always free to move on...
May 12, 2017 06:59:29 AM by Veerle M
I agree with you there Pat M. we can always move on. But that doesn't necessarily mean improvement for Upwork itself. If it is so often discussed as you've mentioned then it looks like this is a rather persistent problem. Perhaps time then for Upwork to address it. Dealing with errors is after all a lot better than wiping them under the carpet.

What IS this thing about having a badge? It is NOT important, and here is WHY!
1. I never had a rising talent badge. There was no such thing when I joined Upwork.
2. Top Rated? It does not really mean much.....and I am going to tell you why as well!!!!
Now, checking up on me (I know some people will)....you will notice that I do have that top rated badge...HOWEVER>>>a few weeks after the top rated badge came to fruition (and yes I had it), I lost it due to a series of unfortunate events. My JSS plunged from 100 to 79....(YES>>>>79). But you know what? It did not affect my ability to get work...in fact, I got more quality work at that time without the badge than with it!
Steadily, my JS went up, and yes, it is high once more. But did it affect my getting jobs? Nope. I still did the same thing...and the work still came in.
Yes, some people are awarded the rising talent badge....does that make them great freelancers? Not necessarily, no. Some do not get it. Does this make them bad freelancers? Not necessarily, no.
The thing is, nobody is entitled to them. They are what they are, and it is what it is. A badge. Nothing else. In the general scheme of things, it is just an ornament. Focus on the green that matters, not the badge.

Hello Irene,
I am not sure why but I am in a situation where I can't apply for almost all new jobs for which my skills match only because the criterion mentions JSS > 90 or Rising Talent status. I lost my rising talent status today and hope that the JSS will be calculated soon. Till the time I get a JSS or get the Rising Talent badge back, I may not be able to apply for more jobs.

Kavitha, this is a common misconception. There's nothing preventing you from applying to a job that specifies 90% JSS. If you do, you may see a warning that you do not meet all the client's requirements, but if you proceed, the client will receive your proposal. You do risk having the client turn down your proposal because of your JSS, but understand that all new jobs by default specify 90% JSS or Rising Talent, so some clilents may not even be aware that they're requiring this.
