Romanian TVA, legal person, not accepted

Hello upworkers,

I wanted to ask some advice especially from fellow Romanian freelancers who maybe encountered similar issues...

I have recently registered as a legal person in Romania (PFA, non TVA paying), and therefore thought I can enter my identification code (CUI) into the upwork tax information so I won't be charged with the TVA fee anymore. My code was not accepted, and I got this message: 'We are reaching out because we could not verify the taxpayer information you submitted. '

I verified my code within the VIES system and apparently it's not valid: ' invalid VAT number for cross border transactions within the EU'

I was wondering, how is this working? How can I register for cross border transactions, or how can I proceed in order to not pay the TVA fee, now that I registered as a legal person?
