There are so many people asking freelancers to meet them on Skpe now, mostly, they are of American origin.
Please, never follow them. I've discovered ALL of them are scammers. They'll promise two weeks of payment and expect you to work throughout the day but will never pay.
Is there no way Upwork can block these individuals instead of wasting our precious connects?

I can advise you to check out this thread where you can find all of the information needed about getting started here. I would suggest to spend extra time on the Safety First section in order to learn how to protect yourself. Asking for free work is a violation on our TOS, when a client asks you to do this you can flag them directly from their job post or send us(moderators) a PM with the details. Thank you!
I've never had a scam client on Skype. Usually people complain about Google Hangouts.
Really though, no matter what platform you use to hold an interview (phone, Upwork, Skype, GotoMeeting, etc.), you still should end up with a contract on Upwork. That is the bottom line. I never start working without a contract, and I have had no trouble using any of the preferred interview methods with prospective clients.

Where did you find this unsupported statistic? Did you invent it? Hear it on a weak radio channel? Poll ten of your buddies over a few beers and then extrapolate the results to "most everyone"?
