Scam?

I recieved a message in answer to a proposal I made.  When I opened the person's link they sent so that I could take a look at the job, my computer got a virus.  I immediately withdrew my proposal but forgot to flag it.  Is there any way to flag it now? Also, after tha,t I started recieving all kinds of invitations - some say they are with Upwork and recommending jobs for me.  It's always a form message & doesn't necessarily fit my skills.  Are these legit?

Hi Debra,

I believe I found the interview you are referring to and will have the team review the link and the client account.

Thanks for reporting.

Thanks, Valeria!  What about subsequent Invitations?  Does Upwork really send you possible jobs?

Hi Debra,

Yes - Upwork does send out invitations to interview to help some clients find good freelancers for their project(s). I have recieved many but most of the time, when I reply, the client never responds...

Thank you!

Upwork can't send invitation for a job, they can only send you a reminder that a job (that suit your skillset in your profile) is available, and tell you to apply quickly.

I once received an email told me to apply for a job, but they hired one freelancer one minute before I completed the cover letter.!

Hi Debra,

To confirm what Joelle has shared, we have Talent Specialist who help connect clients to freelancers that meet their requirements. A Talent Specialist may reach out to you if they think you have the right skills and experience for a client's job post.

Some of these invitations may be legit. However, many clients who send invitations, and many "Talent Specialists," rely on keyword searches and not on actually reading profiles, so much of the time they will not be a match for your skills.

Upwork does not limit the number of invitations clients may send for job posts, and many clients in fields like data entry or scraping choose to spam literally hundreds of freelancers. Any client who sends more than 5 invitations, in my experience, is not worth applying to, and is often working a scam.

So, long story short, invitations are legitimate in that Upwork allows (and encourages) them, but they take some extra screening to determine the good ones from the time-wasters.

 Yes they do.

Probably not enough but they do.

Forgive me. There is a DAILY limit (100 with a verified payment method, 20 without). But there is no limit per JOB, if a client comes back every day for as long as they like to send 100/20 more.
