Scraping the bottom of the barrel

Hi,

just got an invitation from an Upwork Talent Specialist for an SEO job. The job is quoted at $200.00 fixed price and no link to the website. I would never apply for such a job, but since co connects are used I asked for the URL before I can make any decision.

Shouldn't Upwork Talent Specialist be a bit more in the know, this could be a 40 page website requiring lots of content re-working and technical SEO. Or are times really that bad ?

I wouldn't expect a TS to know anything about SEO, why would they?  Do you expect them to know about everything, anyone does on this site?

Even if they knew to make that kind of suggestion I imagine if they client didn't ask their opinion on it they are probably not supposed to give it.

I do not do SEO but I agree with you the URL is needed.  I would consider this a moment of teaching in my response to the client but I think your first instincts were right and I would not apply for the job.  To me I would be concerned this is a client wanting someone to commit to something without understanding what they are committing to.

Yeah, they are. Seems like the general client thinks less info is better, and Upwork doesn't feel the need to put minimum requirements of info on their jobs, since it will be an enormous amount of work for Upw is better not to do anything at all.

Having an Upwork talent specialist in the mix is like playing the old game of telephone, but with the people in the chain passing the info along all speaking different languages.

They should probably also know now to send writers web design jobs, and not to archive proposals from freelancers the client has decided to hire, but there is no indication at all that they know anything.

The client may have wanted to keep the web address private for fear of having freelancers try to make contact directly through the website.

This seems no different from how Talent Specialists usually operate.
