Security Deposit

Hi. I am new to freelancing and Upwork. So I had a response to my application and we exchange emails regarding the job. But as I checked the project details the client sent me, I noticed that each project requires a security deposit but it is refundable as I accomplish the project. Should I proceed with the job offer or should I decline? I'm just wondering if we really need to invest dollars before we get a contract.

You gave them your email. This is strictly forbidden before hire. 

Of course it's a scam. You don't pay a client, the client pays you.
