Social Media grouped with PR? Seriously?

Dear UpWork,

I'm not sure who the person or group of people were that decided to group Social Media and PR skills together here on UpWork but what a nightmare! I have a bunch of offers on PR opportunities now and I never did PR. I do digital social marketing and paid ads.

Please separate these two categories. They do not go together.

Hi Deirdre,

Thanks for sharing your feedback with us, I'll make sure to pass it on to the product team. From time to time, we evaluate and update the specialties and skills listed on Upwork to reflect the current trends and talents that freelancers offer. These updates improve our site’s search and matching capabilities, so it’s important that they’re kept up-to-date. You can find more information in this help article

This change made the matching capabilities worse, not better.

Deirdre, could you please clarify what you mean by "I have a bunch of offers on PR opportunities now?" Are you referring to the job postings you see in your feed or to invites and offers you receive from clients? We'd like to learn a bit more about what you're experiencing so we could make appropriate corrections.

Both. I received an offer for PR and I have no experience. It was from an UpWork Specialist for a client.

I also now see a bunch of PR related projects in my recommended jobs and I never did before. It is because my category was Social Media and that was updated to include PR which is just not a good grouping. I do Social Media Marketing and management and now I cannot separate that out because of this new grouping. Same with Marketing and Brand Strategy…these are not necessarily alike and require different skillsets. Why did upwork change these categories like this?
