Someone stole my work. What should i do? Help!

Someone took my work, when I sent them some initial sketches. Later that day I saw my drawings in color and a background on the person's instagram page. I already made a ticket. What else should I do?

It doesn't sound like someone stole your work.

It sounds like you gave them your work for free.

You made a customer support ticket? Why? What is Upwork supposed to do?

If they didn't pay you for the work, then it doesn't belong to them. You can do a DMCA take-down request. But Upwork won't do that for you.

I'm sorry to learn about your experience, Ian.

I checked your account and can see that the team has continued assisting you through your support ticket. On Upwork, it is recommended to not start working on a project unless the following are met:

  • an offer was sent by the client;
  • you accepted the offer, and it is now showing as an active contract on your My Jobs page;
  • your client's payment method is verified;
  • your client has funded the milestone (for fixed-price contracts).

I would recommend that you read up on these freelancer resources and these tips for avoiding questionable jobs, for help getting started, and for more information about working safely through Upwork.
