Speciality doesn't reflect what I do anymore

Hi,

I'm an architect and I specialise in architectural design and everything that it involves (the design itself, drafting, renderings) and when I signed up to Upwork last year, my profile's speciality was 'Architecture', which I'm confident other colleagues will agree, it kinda sums up what we do/are.

I just noticed that at some point the speciality of my profile has been automatically changed to 'Structural Architecture' and 'Architecture' is not available anymore. My other options are 'Landscape architect' (which I'm not),  and CAD and modelling (which I also do, but not exclusively or my main skill).

Can we have back just 'Architecture' or 'Architectural Design' at the very least? I strongly feel 'Structural Architecture' does not defines the architectural design profession and if any, it might be giving the wrong impression to a potential client when applying if they are specifically looking for architects or architectural designers.

Thanks and regards.

Hi Gabriela,

From time to time, we evaluate and update the specialties and skills listed on Upwork to reflect the current trends and talents that freelancers offer. These updates improve our site’s search and matching capabilities, so it’s important that they’re kept up-to-date. There have been changes made recently in the Engineering & Architecture specialty. The new subcategories under Buildings & Landscape Architecture are Structural Architecture and Landscape Architecture.  I appreciate you sharing your feedback about this change and have forwarded it to the team.

Hi Luiggi,

Thanks for your reply to this issue. It is appreciated that you have a constant updating process, after all, that's what makes UpWork a good place to work as a Freelancer, so there's no doubt that's a positive thing. It is also clear which the new categories under Building and Landscape are.

However, they don't seem to embody the nature of the Architecture profession. Therefore, my call for having a category (perhaps an extra one?) that it's just 'Architecture' or 'Architectural Design' just like before, which are terms widely understood by clients and the public. I have doubts that many architects or architectural designers call themselves 'Structural Architects'. I also have my doubts about clients looking for 'Structural Architects' when wanting a new design for a home.

It takes a few searches on Google for 'Architect' and 'Structural Architect' to see the difference in the amount and definition for each term, not to mention what's out there in the market. 'Landscape Architecture' differs from 'Architecture' as well. When looking for jobs for 'Structural Architects ‘you’ll find results relating to 'Structural Engineer Architects'. When looking for 'Architects' or even 'Landscape Architects’, the results speak for themselves.

Also, thanks for forwarding this issue to the UpWork team. I honestly hope the recategorising of specialities in this discipline is reviewed and considered to reflect better the job market, and perhaps, why not, it would be a good idea to ask the freelance community about what defines their profession/skills in the best way possible.

Regards.

Thanks for following up, Gabriela! We've received an update that the team is planning to make adjustments based on your feedback and other insights they've got. Your Structural Architechture Specialized Profile will be updated automatically once those adjustments are implemented.

Glad to hear that, Valeria! Thanks very much for the update.

Best.

Could you fix the translation as well?

A professional translator always does Language Localization.

I tried to get some system into your Marketplace Category Structure based on my everyday experience. There are more categories but unless you allow more specialized profiles it would be in vain to list them.

Also, can you please share the definition for "talents" and "members of Upwork". Are we now owned by Upwork?
