Specialty portfolio projects, samples of work

Newby!

I have completed my general profile.  I have expertise in 2 separaate areas of skill.  When uploading samples of my work I was directed to make a specialty profile.  I did that and successfully uploaded my projects into that 1st specialty profile.  Now when I am attempting to upload projects to my second specialty profile, it only shows projects from my first specialty and doesn't give me an option for uploading a second set of different projects to the second profile.  Please help.

Kathy,

This doesn't address your question - but someone will be along to help you out. I just want to offer this advice to you for future reference:

Before doing anything you're not sure about, it's not a bad idea to search the forums first. Those of us who have been here for awhile know that Upwork introduces features (like the specialty profile thing) that don't always have all the bugs worked out or make any sense to implement.

So if you do a forum search for "specialty profiles", you'll find quite a few threads about this recently added feature.

ETA: Like this one for starters: https://community.upwork.com/t5/Freelancers/Help-My-Specialized-Profile-Ate-My-General-Profile/m-p/5...

Hi Kathy,

I checked your account you were able to add a portfolio to your Landscape Design profile. I wanted to check if you choose the Content Writing profile when you were adding porfolio items to it? I can see that the Content Writing profile is yet to be published. Once I confirm information from you, I'll go ahead and check this with the team.

Let me know!

I answered this question some days ago.  I didn't want "content writing"but there were no better ooptions so I chose it rather than not choose anything.  I have since published the specialty writing profile.  Content Writing category turns up jobs which are heavily weighted to SEO and web work which I'm not proficient at yet.  How can I change it to Proofreading and Editing which is relevant to my skills?  Several people have this information and have said they are looking into it for me, but I've heard nothing back.  Please help.

Hi Kathy,

You won't be able to change the category of an existing Specialized profile. However, you can delete Content Writing profile and then create a different one with a category that better fits your skills.

That said, your Job Feed is formed based on searches you save and filters you apply to  those saved searches. So you can adjust those to refine your feed. You can also remove some categories shown on this page by clicking the pencil icon here and then removing some broad categories like Other - Writing.

Not being able to change a category and not having good options in your drop down choices makes this specialty feature TOTALLY cumbersome and useless.

It is also cumbersome and NOT user friendly to switch between the job/profile website and community forums.  There are no option on community.upwork.com pages/tabs for returning to or finding my jobs, profile, etc.  There is no tab/link on the job/profile website for finding the forums which you say we should spend time doing before and while we are building our profile.  There should be a much easier interface and connection between the two.

You moderators are posting screen shots of examples.  Somehow the screen shot option for us FLers is not active so I can't screen shot to save draft wording or examples of the glitches to show you.

Thanks for sharing your feedback about your experience adding a specialized profile, Kathy. This feature is being improved and I'll be happy to share your feedback with the team that's doing that.

As for your other observations. In order to quickly go from the Community to Upwork.com site, simply click on the Upwork logo in the upper left corner of this page.

If you are on the main site and logged into your account, Community is one of the options available under "?" tab, just two clicks away.
