Suspicious offer

Hey everyone,

I'd like to contact a member of the UpWork team, because I just got a suspicious offer, the client was unclear about his payment method (as he asked for my PayPal email address, I asked him if he intended to pay me via the UpWork platform, because I know it's forbidden to do otherwise, but he doesn't answer to my question, he just says "If you want to share this project, please give me your email address etc", this is really suspicious)

That's why I would like to talk directly to a member of the Upwork team, so I can give further details to them

Edit: He just confirmed the payment would occur on an external website

Hi Clement,

You can send me the link to the job posting in a PM and I'll have our team review it, however you are correct that you should not accept payments off the platform. In fact, the details you have shared so far in your post here in the Community seem to point to the job/client not being legit. We'll review the job and in the mean time, you can also check out this thread for tips on avoiding suspicious jobs and scams.  Thanks!

Hi Nina, thanks for your reply,

However it seems I can't send you PMs as UpWork says I "do not have sufficient privileges for this resource or its parent to perform this action"

I apologize for the confusion, as there is delay in the ability to send private messages upon first joining the Community, by design. What you can do immediately is flag the job for us to review it by clicking on the "Flag as inappropriate" link located at the upper right of the job posting and our team will review it and take action upon violations of our ToS.

You can also click the little gear cog to the right of a message from another user in the Message center, and report the individual message where the client asks to make payments off of the platform.

Thank you for your clarification, I just reported the Job posting as you suggested

Why is Upwork making it near to impossible to message them for help on this stuff? You say "PM Me" but the system doesn't let you. They say "Contact us ASAP for suspicious bahavior" and then they send you directly to the community. Who the heck can we actually tell and that it will actual work?

You can flag any job post as inappropriate and include the details in the text box.

You can report any message in the Upwork messaging system as well.

Let me guess, you did a Hangout interview and they want to send you a forged check so you can send them real money before the check bounces and your bank account gets closed down?
