TESTS

Hello there,

I just want to ask something about the tests. When I take some English test, it was stated there that the passing score is 2.50, I passed the exam higher than the 2.50 and it displays as below average, so how to get the above average score?

Get a higher score.

"Below Average" means you got a lower score than most people who took the test.

Satbir, I can't understand what you are saying. I get a vague sense that you have a problem or a question, but I can't figure out what it is.

I think you should spend some time reading through the community forum threads. Use the search function to search for topics using keywords that may relate to your problem. Or you could spend some time with a trusted friend who speaks English, explaining to your friend what your question is. Have your friend write down an English language version of your question and then return here and type in their English translation exactly as they wrote it.

Well you must do very well to be above average in english tests. If more people start to get better scores than you then you will become "bellow average" again! So aim for high. like 4.5.

I think it's important to remember that an 'above average' score means above the average score of everyone who took the test. Because most tests are optional, freelancers probably tend to take tests they believe they will do well in. So while higher scores are nice, as long as your scores are similar to the scores of freelancers with the same skill set, I don't think it's something to stress over. In the case of an English test score, I would only be concerned if the jobs you apply to involve a lot of writing or editing.

The same thing happened to me. My score was 4.90 out of 5 and it appears as below average! Doesn't make sense! I only got one question wrong and it wasn't even actually wrong, I just has some issues with my internet and did not answer anything to that one question!

Your "below average" is rated against everyone else who took the test. So while you did well, most people did better (i.e. got 5 out of 5). This is what average means. Your score is not looked at in isolation.

If it's below average, I would hide the score, wait a month and then take the test again. Don't show below average scores on your profile.
