I received an invitation through a Talent Specialist for a job that indicates it pays via salary and RSU. I thought this was curious since salary isn't how things work around here and I wondered why a UW employee would allow this and send it to freelancers. However, I do note that UW has a payroll type process that clients can use (I've never engaged with it). Is that why this job was allowed? It should be noted that it also offered RSU which of course could not be facilitated through UW so I don't know how that plays with ToS. Specifically at the bottom of the description it says: "compensation will be base salary + RSUs".

Presumably the Talent Specialist has no idea what RSU means? (I didn't, either).
What is the client's hiring history like?

This is their only posting. RSU aside, the salary offering is allowed because we presume they are using UW payroll?

I would assume so.
With the client having no history I would guess that the chances of this being genuine are low, but you never know.
Is the payment method verified?

Nope...

Hi Scott and Petra,
I don't have the answer yet, but I just wanted to let you know that we are checking on this with the team. Once I have more information, I'll update this thread.
Thanks!

Scott and Petra,
I have confirmed that this job will not be allowed and we will be addressing it accordingly. We will also make sure all teams involved are on the same page when it comes to these policies.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Scott, I'll also follow up about the job you mentioned in your most recent post.

Scott, this is a very interesting case and it is a bit similar to what many try to offer me.
I work with startups so in the real world making a deal of type "base salary + equity" is quite normal and it can work well for everyone.
However, on Upwork it doesn't work since we cannot make that stock transfer happen in a way that the platform would get the appropriate cut. So I ignore all those.
Very interested to know what conclusion Valeria and the team arrive at.
(My bet at this point is that the job will be taken down and the client is advised to offer purely salary-based compensation if it is not a scam.)

The point is that even if the client is new and innocently got it wrong, the talent specialist should have known better,

Speaking of the Talent Specialist knowing better. I got another one today from a TS and at the bottom it has this from the client:
"Thanks for taking a look at our project and please feel free to connect directly with me at [supplied email address]"
I don't want to generalize across all Talent Specialists, but it would seem a number aren't reading the job post.
