Hi Charles,

I`m sorry to hear about the bad experience you had with our Talent Specialists.
Feel free to send us (moderators) a PM with more details about this so that we can escalate it further, review and improve the process.

This isn't new information. It's been discussed ad nausea many many times for many many years.

It's definitely been discussed quite a bit. But, I'm pretty sure "talent specialists" have been around for less than a year.

Nay, they've been around longer. Under different guises. There has been some sort of "Upwork assisted Recruitment" for as long as I have been on the platform. Initially they were actually proper recruiters who got more involved and interviewed and made proper shortlists of a) suitable and b) interested candidates, rather than just throwing tons of invites at the wall hoping something will stick, and actually not being involved in anything other than mass-inviting.

Perhaps by that specific title, but I've received third party invites from platform helper fairies (i.e. not the client posting the job) since the Odesk days. I remember one specific referral invite which got my newbie blood excited and turned out to be a scammer spammer asking for two weeks of unpaid test work.

June of 2016 is the first mention of the title I found in a basic search in the Community, and it was tied to Enterprise clients. Another mention of a "Project Success Recruiter" came up from December 2015.

For those who don't follow the Official Upwork Announcements forum, Upwork has just doubled down on the Talent Specialist program: https://community.upwork.com/t5/Announcements/Update-on-Talent-Specialists-Program/m-p/464994

I saw that. But they are still contending that it's a relatively infrequent problem and I question that premise. If they've analyzed a representative sample of TS's actions/transactions from inside the system using meaningful parameters and determined that, indeed, they are misfiring a very small percentage of the time, that's one thing. (And when UW states specifically and convincingly that it has been done that way, I'll sit down and be quiet.) If, on the other hand, they are counting the number of times somebody gripes about it in the forum and comparing that to the number of TS actions occurring each day or week, then their framing of the problem is nonsense.

Completely agree. I've never seen a positive comment about the Talent Specialists. Ever.

So, what we need to do is open a CS ticket every single time we receive a radically inappropriate invitation from a "talent specialist." Clearly, the problem is being underestimated because the vast majority of us just ignore them the vast majority of the time. The only way to get the problem across is to show them each one individually.

I would be happy to do that, provided Upwork is prepared to pay me for my time. If there is not someone in the UW organization with some awareness of this issue who can comprehend it as the programmatic malfunction that it is--instead of a series of anomalies--then it wouldn't matter how much data we generate for them free of charge, they are not going to know what to do with it.

I keep thinking that one day, somebody in the upper echelons at UW is going to wake and realize they could make a lot more money--and so could we--if they'd fix some of the potholes and blind alleys that obstruct and confound both clients and freelancers. But I am not holding my breath.
