Tax Identification Numbers - Non-US Freelancer - Foreign Student in EU

Hello Freelancers,

I am fairly new to this platform and I have completed all the verifications I need, I even got my first gig already; However, I haven't put my tax ID number yet. I am a student here in Europe but I originally came from the Philippines. I am wondering if I should put my Philippine Tax ID Number, or should I get a tax ID here in EU?

This maybe an odd topic, but to anyone who can help, please let me know your insights.

Regards,

Noel H.

Good question! As a student here I am allowed to work part time but not really required to pay any taxes unless I am hired locally and got myself a contract. So I'm only paying VAT here at the moment. Since I have been living here in EU for more than 6 years, I haven't been paying tax in the Philippines as well since I am not employed there. I will be settling here in EU for good and I'm planning to convert my visa to PR and get hired here. But that would be after graduation which will be next year. For now, my concern is how to withdraw my balance on UPWORK. 🙂

Where are you supposed to pay tax?

I figured out that my student visa is actually my Tax ID! 😂
