Tax Information Not Verified

Hi,

I live in Spain and I've been trying to add my tax information, but each time I enter my VAT number I receive an email saying it cannot be verified. I've double checked my name, address, and other information and it all coincides with my account information on Upwork. 

Is there something I'm missing?

Hi Samuel,

You can verify the validity of a VAT number by entering it in the VIES database. Let me know if it verifies in the database but not on Upwork. Thank you.

Ok, I just tried that and received the following message:

No, invalid VAT number for cross border transactions within the EU (please refer to FAQ, questions 7, 11, 12, 13 and 20 for more information).

I don’t know why it wouldn’t work, I’m registered as self-employed in Spain.

Ok, try without the ES in front, in this format: X-------Y where X and Y are letters and there are seven numbers in between. It should work, I also do cross border transactions as an autónoma and this is not a valid reason to get rejected.

I believe you need to put ES (for "España)" in front of your VAT number - at least that´s how it worked for me.
