Hi there,
I have setup my bank account details for getting paid but I am stuck in filling the tax information. I am a US citizen (ie born in USA and have US passport) but living in India since childhood as my parents are Indian. I have setup an Indian bank account and I want to know whether I have to fill the W-9 form or W-8BEN form. So which form I need to go with and what should be the legal name of business as I am a student and dont own a business or something. Kindly guide me through the process.
Looking forward for your response
Regards

Hi Muaaz,
You will need to fill out our W-8BEN form and you can add your full name as the legal name of your business. If something is still confusing, feel free to follow up with any additional questions you may have.
Our team will reach out to you via ticket as soon as possible and will assist you further with your tax information. Thank you.

Unless I am mistaken, US citizens, regardless of where they live, still have to submit a tax return to the IRS every year.
In the past, Support always had to manually intervene to help foreign based US freelancers to be set up correctly.
Filling out the W8-BEN literally makes the freelancer declare that they are NOT a US Person
The OP is a US citizen, so he *IS* a US person for tax purposes.

Thanks Petra, I have made the necessary changes and updated the W-9 form.
