I'm a Brazilian living in the US, with a visa, work permit and ssn, I'd like to know if I fill in the tax information as a resident in the US or outside the US? I'm confused about how to respond. I've contacted support but the robot seems to be inconclusive in its instructions.

Hi Isabela,
I looked closer at your profile and confirmed that the address on file is Brazil. If you're currently living and a resident in the U.S., you'll be considered a U.S. person. Therefore, you'll need to file a Form W-9 with Upwork. To enter or edit your tax address, visit Settings > Tax Information > Tax Residence.
You may visit this help article for more information and detailed instructions on completing your Tax Information.

How do I know if I'm a resident? Once I have my ssn and work permit, can I be considered a resident? I'm currently living in the United States.

If I enter as a US person, what would my Federal Tax Classification be, as a freelance designer?

Hi Isabela,
Yes, you are considered a U.S. resident. Regarding your Tax Classification, this isn't something we can advise you on; we recommend that you consult a tax advisor or a local tax authority. Feel free to check out the resources Arjay shared for some general guidelines on completing your Tax Information.
