Taxes

Hello there.

What happens if I do not fill the W-8Ben form? May I still be paid if i dont fill it?

When i tried to fill it they ask me to type my "legal name of bussiness", so... what do they mean? I do not have a legal bussiness because I'm a freelancer.

I'm not a US citizen.

regards

Just put your own name where it says business name.

And yes, you do have to fill it out if you want to get paid.

Hi Ivan,

The Form W-8BEN is a form used to confirm you’re not a U.S. taxpayer and that Upwork is not required to withhold taxes from your earnings. For record-keeping purposes, Upwork requires a Form W-8BEN for all non-U.S. taxpayers paid on Upwork. Once you file your Form W-8BEN, the system will activate your eligibility to access funds immediately. For the Legal Name of Business, you can add your legal name. Thank you!
