Tests Feedback

Hi,

Some constructive feedback from the tests.

  • Have software version numbers next to the technical tests - so the jQuery one would be listed as jQuery v3.1.1 or Bootstrap becomes Bootstrap v4. This helps because if freelancer developer is familiar with the latest technologies, or frameworks, some of the old legacy stuff will not be relevant (deprecated) thus affecting the score.
  • How often are the technical tests checked for relevancy? As am sure some of the material is out of date
  • How often are the tests checked for spelling and grammar issues? Found a few.
  • Feedback from tests - I've only complete two so far but I couldn't find a way to review what I may have got wrong.  All part of continuous improvements*
  • Who is the assessment body behind the tests?
  • Is it possible to introduce a style switcher as my eyes were straining from the English spelling test
  • Some of the tests take you off site - total different user experience
  • What accessibility compliance does the test meets?

*Btw, I've read this: https://support.upwork.com/hc/en-us/articles/211063198-Skills-Tests

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,
Will

None of the skills tests are controlled, created, administered, managed or in any other way influenced by Upwork.

They are standard tests from a company called Expertrating.

Hi Petra,

Thanks for your reply.

So no feedback taken on board from the users/freelancers back to Expertrating?  No evaluation or possible improvements.  You get what you are given - warts and all (current quality standards)?

Interesting... good to know.

Oh I am sure feedback is fed back. But those complaints have been raised for years, over and over.

Hi Petra.

Wow, over the years?  That's not right.

Here's a crazy... out of the box idea.... what about... changing service providers?  Do you need them rather than they need you?  I know a few otherwise #stilltrapped

Let me know if I can help signpost you.

It's almost like self abuse knowing / agreeing that something is wrong but not doing anythng about it.

Btw, important to note they're not complaints just constructive feedback with suggestions for improvement - there's a difference.

Hope this helps.

William, I am a Freelancer just like you.

Personally I don't think those tests add any significant value either way.

And yet some job postings will not let you submit a proposal without first completing various tests. Smiley Frustrated #notime

Think we will just have to agree to disagree on this Petra. Smiley Happy
