Time Tracker app for Ubuntu gets worse and worse

Almost 6 months ago Time Tracker app stopped working in Ubuntu. The problem is discussed in this forum thread. Ubuntu users could not log in to their accounts through the app until one of the forum users suggested downgrading libnss packages. Did the support staff solve the problem? No! Did Upwork fix the app? No! After 6 months we still have to keep libnss downgraded to get time tracker working.

Several months ago the other bug appeared. When I started the app, it began grinding my laptop's hard drive and it was endless. The only way to stop that was killing the process. When I started the app for the second time it worked fine. Okay, I could live with that.

upwork process grinding the hard drive

Today the app was updated and now restarting does not help. There is no end to hard drive's rattling. Is it defragmenting my hdd or scanning it? Who knows. It feels like some damned windows antivirus or some damned spyware. Man Mad

Hey, Upwork! You increased service fee from 10% to 20%. Why can't you invest some $$ and debug the time tracker app for Linux users or at least do some public relations stuff (keeping you users informed about problems and solutions)?

Hi Olexiy

Can you post a screenshot of the "about" window so I can know which version you are using?

I would post a screenshot of 'about' tab, but the app is un******responsive.
This is what I get in the software center:

Hi Olexiy,

Could you please provide the screenshots Thiago asked for? Also, could you also please share your log files (located in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Upwork\Upwork\Logs) with our team through a support ticket? Our team couldn't find is not seeing any activity on your end for the past two weeks and would like take a more detailed look in order to troubleshoot your problem.

Finally, please note that the process consuming IO is a kernel process (file system journaling process) and its high activity could be caused by any other program in the computer. To analyze all the factors, please provide the above mentioned information and our team will follow up.

Thank you.

1. Screenshot
As I already explained, the program is unresponsive. I cannot open 'about' tab and make a screenshot.

2. Logs
You gave me a Windows path. I want to belive that was a mistake.
This is what I have in the latest log file ~/.Upwork/Upwork/Logs/upwork.cef.20160804.log

3. No activity?
That is very interesting. The last day I used Time Tracker app was Wednesday, August 3.

4. Kernel process

My computer works perfectly well and HDD is quiet until I start Time Tracker. That's when the hell starts. When I kill upwork process everythin is fine again.

Olexi, can you show the contents of `~/.Upwork/Upwork/Logs/upwork.20160804.log`?

Well, yesterday I started getting emails from support team. They created a ticket and suggested updating the time tracker app.
I have downloaded version 4.1.347.0 and reinstalled the app. Now it works fine!
It would be great if Time Tracker users would be informed about important updates by email and/or by pop-up messages in the app itself.

Hi Olexiy,

I'm glad to hear your Team app problem was resolved quickly by following our recommendations. Users are prompted automatically to update the Team app once the new version is available, and I have been using this method ever since I started using the Upwork Team app.

You can check if by any chance the pop-up notifications for the Team app are blocked on your computer.

I have to agree that the Linux app is terrible. It takes an unreasonable amount of RAM for a simpe time tracking app, it is slow to load and starting from the latest updates, it won't appear in my tray as an icon anylonger (KDE5).

We pay 20% fees, I believe we deserve better than this!
