Hi!
I'm a US citizen travelling abroad. I already confirmed my US identity when I was in the States, but I just got invited to a job for US-located people, and it says I'm not eligible.
Do I need to be physically in the US to qualify for US-based jobs?
Why did I get invited to a job for US-located people, but now it's saying I don't qualify as US-located?

I've had this issue previously when bidding on jobs while I was on vacation out of country. Upwork wants you to be phisically present in the USA when bidding on or doing the work. One solution is to always use a USA based VPN when connecting to UpWork.

That is called "location lying" and will get your account suspended sooner or later. Great idea...
The point of the "USA location" is not to discriminate on nationality, only on location.
If you don't live in the USA, and pretend that you do, by definition you are misrepresenting yourself and are cheating and are violating Upwork's Terms of Service.
This does not count when when you do actually live in the USA, and go on holiday for a few weeks, but if you don't LIVE in the USA please don't try to misrepresent where you are. It will not end well.

Hello, I am a US citizen, with a California address, but am currently travelling in Asia with an Asian home based address. I unconsciously clicked on USA location before creating my profile. Attempted to retrack and amend location. Could you guide me to rectify? *** Edited for Community Guidelines ***

Hello Bernadette,
Can you please tell me what specific country are you in right now so I can change your country address?
Thank you.

I'm in The USA and was at the time I wrote this as well. I think I took a weekend trip to Mexico when I noticed the issue previously and decided to just use a vpn rather than try to fight with your automated system that doesn't understand that someone living and working in the USA could travel beyond it's borders on occasion.

Some people live near and cross borders or take a vacation outside of the USA. I live and work in the USA but at the time I wrote this was traveling to Mexico frequently. The system in place seems to get confused if someone living in working in the USA decides to take a vacation and log in from a location other than their normal home.

Best thing is to write on the first line of your proposal, "I'm an American, but temporarily our of the country". Your not meeting the location requirement won't stop clients from seeing your proposal, and location is rarely a dealbreaker anyway.
