Updating week limit

I had a 40hrs week limit on one of my contracts. Last week I worked 59hrs, so +19 were outstanding. The client increased the work limit only today. Seems like the new limit does not apply to past weeks, right? Those +19 hrs are still marked as overtime. I also tried adding manual time (to the previous week) and it also did not take into account: still 40 hrs are in review.

Is such upwork site logic correct? (I know there are other way of paying for the overtime if agreed with the client).

re: "Seems like the new limit does not apply to past weeks, right?"

That is correct.

re: "Those +19 hrs are still marked as overtime."

Yes. They are marked as overtime hours for which you did not get paid. Because your weekly limit was 40 hours per week. Not 59 hours per week.

re: "I also tried adding manual time (to the previous week)..."

Tried, and failed. Because one can not add manual hours to a previous week.

It is good that you are aware of alternatives.

Yes, one certainly can. Up to 12 noon UTC on Monday.  It's not 12 noon UTC yet.

But overtime is overtime, whether added manually or tracked. So any overtime (tracked or manual) is not billed or charged.

The client can pay for those excess hours as a bonus.
