The so-called client generated more than $10k by reposting the SAME SCAM again and again. In less than 24hr.
Please do something!

Another one the scammer was gifted "Plus Client" by Upwork,
They no doubt had a really good giggle about that.

The one labelled "Interesting job" is still up - how is this possible? And "Debbie" has hired four more people - and counting - on that job. At least somebody finally gave them a review saying "This client is a scammer", but I'm guessing that people who think they can make $1,000 for a few minutes of work are probably not carefully checking the client's history.

This "job" is still up - 24 hours later! - and they've just scammed another person, who has left them a 5-star review.

So apart from every other ludicrous aspect of this "job", the client is pretending to be from the UK and saying that they can't use their credit card for "international transactions" - yet they can be charged in U.S. dollars via California-based Upwork to hire the freelancer? Hello?????

I just checked the freelancer's profile who left him a 5* review and I saw this:

Me too! I stopped my work, I stopped checking other threads! I can't even sleep now.
I'm just checking these scam posts, waiting for someone to delete them.
I'm sick of it!

Several hours later, 4 Scam offers out of 7 are still there!
Why ?

Hi all,
I'd like to follow up on the concern you've shared in this thread and clarify that our team did review and took action against jobs you flagged by using the reporting option and later shared on the thread. I've checked and followed up with our team to ensure these posts are no longer accessible from direct links, which is why they appear as still being available.
We appreciate your reports but I'd like to ask you to continue flagging jobs like these if you come across them instead of posting their links, screenshots or quoting their content in the Community. Thank you.

Vladimir, the jobs haven't been taken down - the same one that I flagged 11 hours ago is still in my jobs feed, and the "submit proposal" button is active. If you do a search for "PUBG UC" you can easily find them.

There are 4 there as of just now, one with a "other jobs by this poster" that doesn't include the pubg part so isn't coming up in the search. Two of those jobs are 10 days or older.

Too little.
Too late.
It's not your fault or that of any of the community team, but here Upwork has really, REALLY failed freelancers.
He did TWO "jobs" with the "client" - one of them to the tune of $2k

But doing that didn't WORK.
If someone had done something when this was first brought to Upwork's attention, many people would not have lost money they can't afford to lose.
The other thread raged all day yesterday. NOTHING happened and we watched in horror as freelancer after freelancer was being taken for all their money.
That was a whole day after I and at least one other person flagged this - long before anything appeared in the forum.

I am at a loss as to what that even means, but they still appear in searches and can still be accessed, can still be applied to and can still lose the freelancers' money. The one that is marked as an "interesting job" comes up as the first result in the search with the main keyword. As it is so important not to have a link, please feel free to run a search. I am sure you still have the relevant keywords from all the edited posts. Also check out the client's "other job posts" - which are also scams. And still there.
And even if they have/had now, finally, been taken out, that's like sending a fire-engine to the scene of a huge fire 2 days after it started burning down and the first 999 call was made.

Hey Petra,
I actually submitted a proposal to the job that was labeled interesting to see what's the deal. And the poster even reacted with my proposal. But when I checked the proposal from the "Submitted proposals" tab, it said that the job has been taken down. And now when I checked it again after reading your post through "search", it is still active and can be applied to. I believe it's a major bug.

At the risk of beating a dead horse (though this one seems to still be kicking): This scam is the second item in Lena's "how to recognize a scam" post that's linked from the "Getting Started on Upwork" thread. So I'm really baffled by how long it's taking Upwork to recognize and react to it.
Quoting from that post:
Additionally, talent should not send payment in any currency to clients off the platform for any reason, even in exchange for payment on the platform. Be cautious of requests to buy, sell, or transfer currencies of any kind (regular or crypto). Being asked to buy, sell, trade, or transfer any form of currency, even for a fee on Upwork, is prohibited and should be reported

I'm usually quite defensive about Upwork when they're being accused of allowing scams, but them not acting on reports for so long is indefensible.
A couple of months or so ago I reported a 'client' asking for nudes. 24 hours later and the 'job' post was still there; it might still be there now if I didn't raise the issue in this forum. There's many other examples of what appears to be a lackadaisical approach to processing reported job posts.
Admins... can you please raise the issue with the appropriate department? And by raise the issue, I mean 'have a word' instead of just passing it on.

Hmmmm... Sushant, if they offer to hire you, turn on the time tracker.
Jan 29, 2022 05:39:45 AM by Sushant B
I don't think they will be able to send me an offer as it's showing "job has been taken down" when I check it through the submitted proposals tab. However, if I search "pubg" through the job searcher, it's still there sitting at the first position with that "interesting" label. Somehow the job's criteria and description have been changed as well. I really wanted to show what I'm talking about through screenshots but they will remove it.

I've been reporting and flagging the same obvious scams for weeks, and they're still all over the place.
The only conclusion I can make so far is that Upwork simply doesn't care.
Jan 29, 2022 05:14:13 AM by Mary W
This am, searching for PUBG UC doesn't bring up anything. I randomly searched for some of the job IDs and didn't find them, either. My heart is heavy and I'm furious with Upwork for their dilatory process. There is absolutely NO EXCUSE why these jobs were allowed to remain so long and to suck so many FLs in. Shame on your review bots/ people/ whatever passes for quality control on job posts.
Jan 29, 2022 05:57:30 AM by Val H
The jobs mentioned here have now been removed but after a bit of detective work I found (and flagged) two more by the same client. These were asking for help buying Instagram ads or some such scammy nonsense.

THE HORROR CONTINUES!
Another customer account, appeared today, with the same scam process! (apparently the same person)
It also shows that he is from the United Kingdom.
It has now 2 jobs in progress, and has made 2 victims today:
That is a turnover of $1800 (1300+500)
This guy found a good loophole that he makes freelancers pay for, and humiliates upwork with his security processes that do not secure anything in this case! he makes thousands of dollars per day, under our eyes!
Do you intend to do something?

It's not a loophole. This is a virtual currency, any sale or trading in currencies is strictly forbidden in the ToS. They don't allow it. Why these jobs still pop up is another question.
