Upwork and Visa regulations

I am sure this question may have been asked before but I just wanted to make sure I have all the information in front of me.

I am a master's student studying in the States under an F1 visa type. I was wondering if this affects the projects I get/can work on considering I do not have an SSN at the moment.

Hi Aditi,

It would be best to consult with a legal advisor if the F1 visa is an acceptable work document to freelance in the U.S. At this time, to submit proposals for jobs with a U.S. location requirement you must have a valid, state-issued ID, driver’s license, green card, or U.S. passport and upload an image of it to us. Please note that if you can't verify your location using those documents, you can still use Upwork to submit proposals for all other job posts except for those with a U.S. location requirement.

My understanding is that F1 visas may only work on campus during the first year.  I am NOT a specialist, however, and you need to speak with your school, Immigration, or get legal advice before you put your visa at risk..
