Upwork is the best of this world!

Upwork is the best of this world where about 50 freelancers submit a proposal within 20 to 60 minutes and there are also some superheroes who still applied after that 50 bids.

Upwork has the best clients who post jobs but love to invite tons of Freelancers! They don't even care about those who applied to their jobs by paying connects!

Upwork is the best platform where 6 connects that means 90 cents need to apply for most of the hourly based job where a client post a job where they set the project length for 6 months or 30 hours per week. But in reality, for a video post-production, it's very rare to need 30 hours to complete a job or after a project, the client is disappeared for most of the time...so why they set those six months or 30 hours! Only they do know! But Freelancers have to pay 6 connects or 90 cents to apply for their job!

This is the best place where clients don't like to respond and if luckily someone respond, he/she looks for free or test job from the Freelancers. In the last 6 weeks, I have received 3 interviews where clients were asking me for the test or free job. When I didn't agree, they just threw me. There is no value of Top rated or Job Success Score, honesty, professionalism and skills.

What do you think? Did they hire anyone? No, they just opened a job, waste freelancers connect which are not free, asked for a test or free job and they disappeared!

The price of a project comes ridiculously low and unreasonable and there might some big-minded people who post a job at $5 and they really look to finish that job at $5!

There are some clients who just disappeared after posting a job or interviewing some freelancers. I can show tons of jobs where clients are just disappeared after posting a job or interviewing tons of Freelancers! Upwork says, they return the connects when a job closed without hiring! Truly! Do they really return the connects every time! I should get some connects from them then!

Wow! Upwork! Wow! You have the best clients in the world! You are the best! Day by day, you are getting better than the best! Prrrrrrrroud of you!

N:B: This is the situation from last 3 or 4 months.

Thank you for this note...I'm finding that this is likely the case as well and I've only been on for a few weeks.  Yes, I've spent endless amounts of time, replying to multiple jobs that look interesting (and yes, for a far lower fee than normal) with essentialy no response.  I was warned by a friend, but I was drawn it.  Anyway, let's hope maybe something comes out of it.  I do have a question...have you received any work yet from this platform and have you been paid?

Yes, I have done 60 projects in here and earned about 6K within 10 months.

5.9 k in about 17 months

My bad! You are right! It's 17 months, not 10 months.

Yes, quite a lot of us have made quite a lot of money here (you can verify this by clicking through to the profiles of any of the regular posters here).

It sounds like you're making some mistakes in your approach. It IS competitive here, and most people don't land their first jobs right away. But, many of us who are successful here do not spend a lot of time combing through jobs, and bid very sparingly, only on jobs where we're confident that something sets us apart and makes us an obvious top candidate.

It seems you have the experience to focus that way, but aren't doing it. And lowering your rate to be competitive is a bad idea, because it puts you in a competition band with a huge number of other freelancers, whereas higher-end freelancers (though competing for a smaller number of jobs) have fewer true competitors.

Derek,

I personally see it as a channel, it is not the only way I look for work but it is one of them.  It is not as perfect as Rafsun seems to think but I also cannot deny it is way better than I thought it would be.

One thing I have come to believe is that everyone's time here is a little bit different.  We do different things, we have different skills, we propose differently, we have different goals, and we come from different countries and backgrounds.  I was reading a complaint from a guy today where he thinks he is going to spend $100.00 in connects a month and I cannot imagine having more than 100 jobs to propose on in a month.   If I did, I would be winning way more of them (I believe).

So, I don't think you should take Rafsun, or your friends, or anyone's word on it, just give it a shot and see what happens.  My advice to you is, stick to your rate and bring value to the client.  Anyone who is too cheap to consider you is not someone you want to work with anyway.

I am a very poor evaluator of profiles but yours needs more (previous employment and such) and turn off the visibility on the spelling test.

Hi Mark - Somehow I got the impression that Rafsun really doesn't think that Upwork is perfect. Of course, what is?

You might be right, but he sounded so positive about it.

I realize that people are unhappy and I am trying to be sympathetic, but some of them sound like Upwork owes them something and I guess I don't understand that.

Old system, new system, next system...you can either work with it or you can't.

Mark - I think he was being sarcastic. There are lots of unhappy people - but Upwork is not here to take care of people. It is a great site, I think, and the best I have found - but one has to work with it. And there is no such thing as a free lunch.
