Upwork keep spamming me with "specialized profile" pop ups.

Hello community.

Recently there was a change regarding upwork specialized profiles.

Since than, i have this pop up coming out every time i visit or refresh upwork job search page. I tried clicking on "review profile" "learn more" or just closing the window, and its still coming up every single time. I see this message 50 times per day its really anoying as it pops up randomly.

What i tried so far?

- Clearing browser cache

- Reinstaling chrome

- Using safari

- browsing in private mode

- using another device

- using another account on chrome

-------------------------------------------------

Also i would like to report that since this thing with  profiles started happening, from more than 50 sent proposals i did not received a single answer, till yesterady. Which is weird.

If someone from support can check this out i would appriciate it.

Also what is more confusing is that i don't have "photography" profile at all. I had one long time ago. But stil it does say it was merger with the "photography" ... which is really confusing.

I wish i could have just one normal profile, as i do not need any "specialized" ones.

Thank you for you time.

Regards.

Hi Dusan,

Thanks for the message, I understand your frustration with the recurring pop-up notification.

I can confirm that if you select the "Review profile" option and review the newly added skills available on your specialized profile (select the pencil icon in the "Skills & expertise" profile section), the pop-up won't appear again. Let us know if you need further assistance, we'd love to hear if you found the new skills useful.

We've updated the list of specialties, merging some of them to other categories and I would presume that's why you're seeing the the update on the pop-up note. I'll follow up with our team to check if the specific reference is displayed by design, since you no longer have a profile for that specialty.

That did the trick... i was checking out specialized profiles but not in this order.. so it was not triggered. Thanks.

Yes please check whats happening whith that "speciality" also im getting design jobs in the feed all the time.. which is really not usefull.

If i could launch my profile to be featured for the video production clients that would be amazing, as im probably getting into cleint feeds for design only.

Cheers.

Thanks for the follow up, Dusan,

Regarding your experience with the jobs displayed in you job feed. Could you please set up a new Job Feed as described here in order to fine tune your job searches to show the most relevant results that match preferences you select? It sounds as if you might have updated your specialty at one point and removing any previous saved searches and saving at least one new job search should result in having only jobs relevant to your current specialty appear in your job feed.

Let me know if you need further guidance and do follow up with an update.

Yes of course. I will do that.

However this morning when i opened upwork im getting this pop up again. Again, it happens on all devices and browsers.

Any idea?

Thanks for the update, Dusan.

Based on the information you shared and the content of the pop-up you keep receiving, this isn't an expected behavior and I'll ask our team to take a closer look. I'll follow up here with an update once we have more information, thanks for providing valuable insight.

Thanks Vlado.

If it helps, the pop up goes away after going through the steps you mentioned before (clicking on the review specialized profile and enter the settings) and its gone for few hours. However it always comes back.

Maybe is worth to mention that when i did  those steps on the macbook browser, when i checked upwork from my mobile, the pop up was still there on my iphone (all the time).

I want to update this subject.

The pop is still present everytime i visit upwork job feed page (from any device i use)

However now its changed that photography profile (which i don't have) is mergerd to the LOCAL photography profile (which i also do not have) and its stated "We did this to make it easier for clients to find your profile."

Not only this pop up now appeard for the milionth of the time, but im also concerned that it has to do something with me spending connects like crazy and from 50 proposals not getting a single answer back?  Is something wrong with the visibility of my profile? Before i was getting answers on every 5 to 10 proposals sent.

Could anyone from the support team update me on this issue? If there is no more answer on this subject does that mean that i need to contact support via email?

Hi Dusan,

First of all I'd like to thank you for your patience while we're working on identigying and addressing teh core issue.

As an update, regarding the recurring notification the team took action which should result in the pop-up not appearing further. Could you please confirm if that's the case?

Regarding your proposals, I can confirm the issue with the incorrect pop-up content was related to your previous specialized profile data, which doesn't affect your current general and specialized profile, nor your proposals or your profile visibility.

Please do keep us updated and I'll continue to monitor for any similar reports, which I haven't came across yet.

I apologize if there is a thread about it, bit for, more than a month I'm having these extremely annoying popups about changes to personalized profiles and they are not going away.

Can I do anything to stop it?

I mean, I get it, there were changes to personalized profiles, that's great but I don't want to be notified about it 10 times each day, on both desktop and mobile app. 🙂

Hi Filip,

I'm sorry about the frustration the recurring pop-up notification is causing you. By design, if a freelancer selects the "Review profile" option and review the newly added skills available on your specialized profile (select the pencil icon in the "Skills & expertise" profile section), the pop-up won't appear again.

Please do follow these steps but note that o
ur team is aware of the problem with the pop-up reappearing in some cases even after the above steps have been followed. We're working on ensuring the pop-up appears as expected for all freelancers.

Hi there,

Does anyone know how to disable the annoying pop-up "Changes to your specialized profile"?

I've tried clicking the link, clicking the close "X" and scrolling through the entire "how to" section relating to the specialized profile - it's still popping up all the time.

Suggestions welcome.

Hi Kathryn,

Could you please try clicking the "Review profile" option and reviewing the newly added skills available on your specialized profile? You can also do this by selecting the pencil icon in the "Skills & expertise" section of your profile.

Thanks!

Thanks, Andrea! That appears to have done the trick.

Hi Andrea, This appears to be a cookie issue. I can remove the pop-up by doing as you say, but when CC Cleaner deletes cookies, the pop-up returns at next log in. I can set CC cleaner to ignore cookies on Upwork, but that's not really the problem. While I understand and appreciate new features, something like this should not be mandatory but, instead, be a "Click here to review" and "Click here to dismiss". While we’re at it, can you please tell me if there is a way to not get, "Your payments are available early" messages
