I have been getting a number of system messages sent to me by Upwork from an old client. They all state "This participant has left the conversation. They will not receive any future messages"
I haven't worked for this client for about two years and the contract was closed a long time ago (also around two years ago). I've gotten about ten of these already and since the client has hired a number of people, I really hope I don't get messages for all of them.
Has anyone else seen this?
I wake up and see I've gotten four new messages and think it might be a good job opportunity only to find that Upwork is screwing up again.
Yup, Jean, sounds like clearing what they consider deadwood from the database. It's consistent with the recent contract closure fiasco, although in that case they stated (who knows where) that the housekeeping was driven by escrow account management..

I have seen it also. I suspect they are ending old conversations with old clients.
If that's all they're doing, then can't they just send it without sending me a message that I neither care about nor have anything to do with?
I'm not the client and I worked with this client long before the new messaging system was implemented. If they want to clear deadwood, then just do it and stop sending me messages about it.
I've seen it a lot. I was wondering if clients/freelancers are deactivating their Upwork accounts and that's what's cuing those odd messages. Not a huge deal, but it would be nice to know why it's happening lately.
I just received one as well that appeared to be from the manager of a project I did over a year ago. I was confused as to why I was receiving a message saying she had left the conversation when we haven't dealt with each other in so long!
