Hello everyone,
I need some help,
I was woking for one of my client on long term basis, I did lots of work for him and billed only 44 hours,
One day his upwork account got suspended and he hired me for a job from his another account, I also did that job suscessfully, he was fully satisfied with my work and always write great after I finish the task,
But after some months I got this e-mail from upwork
"This reversal, also known as a chargeback, is a result of your client contacting their bank and asking them to reverse the payment for the following transaction(s):
- Amount:
$298.67
$196.00
$158.67
$84.00"
Now I am not able to withdraw any money untill I reverse this payment to his bank, the message is showing
"Withdraw resticted on your account"
I have a open ticket to discuss about this issue but no one replying to me since 22 hours, I have opened another tickets to adress the issue bt they replied you have already one open ticket and we are closing this duplicate and sadly no one replying on that open ticket from 22 hours,
I dont know what should I do and where should I talk about this,
My question is,
"I want to know what was my fault I did all my work with full honesty,
I did a lots of work for him and billed only 44 hours till now, If I refund all his money he requested That means almost all my work all my hard work, time everything is waste, including 20% upwork fee all the work I did for him is free and any client can do this to me in future then what should I do in that case there should be anything for freelancer also in upworks law's, I can't understand why he is doing this to me he was fully satisfied with my work when we were working together, what is the point to do this after 4-5 months
One agent said that upwork is working on reclaim your fund but its been a long time nothing happend and they also close that ticket by saying it duplicate,
I am feeling helpless dont know what to do
I put lots of hard work in this profile,
So someone please guid me out there how I can resolve this issue and what can I do to deal with it because no one replying on the ticket,
Looking forward for your help
Thank you.

Not quite. The money has already been returned to the account of the owner of the credit card, which may or may not be the owner.
The bank took it directly out of Upwork's account and Upwork had no say in the matter.
They now expect you to pay it back,
Did you use the tracker and had meaningful work memos and good activity levels for those working hours?

It's the weekend and there, unfortunately, isn't much to discuss. Any future earnings on your Upwork account will be applied to what you owe them until the debt is cleared.

You'd have to ask the client that.

The client will be suspended because it is against Upworl's terms of service to file a chargeback, but that doesn't help you.

If you used the time tracker for the 44 hours, hourly protection might apply. If you used manual time or fixed project, then unfortunately not only you worked for free, but you will need to pay the money back to Upwork. You have done nothing wrong, the client was a scammer. For the future though, do not work with a client whose account got suspended. Even if he has another account, the fact that Upwork suspended one of his accounts should've raised a red flag for you not to trust the client. Also, having 2 accounts is not allowed, so the client was breaking Upwork rules.
