Using Upwork on a J-1 Visa?

Hi there! I'm new to the platform and thought it would be great to do some part time freelancing work here. However, i'm unsure if i'm legally allowed to perform freelance work on my current visa. I'm on a J-1 visa sponsored by The University of Pennsylvania and work as a postdoc researcher. I'm originally from Australia. While i'm eager to do some part-time writing, I am also concerned about potentially voiding my visa. Any advise would be much appreciated. Thanks!
