Dear Upwork community,
I have an issue with taxes.
I work in Germany, and pay my taxes here. I am though registered as a low-income freelancer (kleinunternehmer), which means, that you can earn max 17 500€ a year. And now the issue: Also as a low-income freelancer I do not have pay VAT, and nor I have a VAT-number. Instead of VAT-number I give to my clients my tax number (steuernummer), and no VAT is charged.
Has Upwork thought about this? Or does someone else here have experience with this same topic? At the moment I cannot enter any number, that could be validated by Upwork to my tax information, and as I understood, for this reason, VAT will be automatically taken from my fees. Is this correct? And what can I do to avoid this?
Thank you in advance for your answer, which I hope arrives soon.
Best wishes!

Hi Satu,
You may refer to this support article for more information about VAT. I would definitely recommend that you consult with a legal advisor to assist you further with your concern.
