VAT unable to verify - twice

My VAT number was twice failed to verify.

I'm 100% sure that it's correct.

Ticket support is down.

Can anybody help?

You have to input only the digits and not the country code. 

I only entered the digits. Besides, if you try to enter the country code, you get an error.

Have you checked the treats and FAQ about VAT already? I remember some freelancers had the same problem.

From what i read :

 

If your VAT number was declined, it was likely due to one of the following reasons:

  • Country mismatch
  • Name mismatch
  • Expired VAT ID
  • Invalid format (for information on formatting, click here and see Q11)

Everything is ok, i need someone for the tech support to tell me exactly what is wrong so i can fix it.

Please, make sure that you submit a number that can be verified by the VIES database? Let us know if it verifies there but still doesn't on Upwork.

Nope, it still doesn't work.

Can I somehow send u my VAT number in private so you can check it yourself?

You can send me a private message by clicking on my name here next to this post and then clicking "Send Private Message." You can also add a screenshot of your VAT being successfully verified by the VIES database.

Hi, I'm experiencing the same problem...

First time I typed VAT as only digits and i got an error, second time I typed VAT as "country code" + digits and the result was the same.

So i checked my VAT on VIES website and it says "incorrect number"Smiley Surprised

I don't understand why this happen... I usually check my VAT status on local website and it currently says "ACTIVE".

If your VAT number is found to be invalid in the VIES database, please refer to the provided FAQ link (questions 7, 11, 12, 13 and 20) and follow the outlined steps.

I have found this extremely frustrating. Been declined twice as well.

 

The format of my VAT number is different on the VIES site than what upwork is accepting (VIES has no spaces in number, Upwork wants my number with spaces in)

 

My VAT number is for my UK company, of which I'm a director, that I do work for on Upwork. Eventually opened a ticket and uploaded my VAT certificate as well. Let's see how long this will take.

I've checked the VAT number in your profile, and would like to ask you to enter your VAT number without the country code and without spaces, in the same way you used it in the VIES database.

I attempted that and got the following error (see screenshot)screenshot.91.jpg

 

The webpage specifically requests that I put GB in it.

I've got the same problem. My VAT number doesn't verify but it is valid, I just checked it again and have a screen shot to prove it... But all mails I get from Upwork regarding this issue are just generic answers which don't help me at all. I'm really annoyed because I have no idea how to solve this problem...

Valeria, I work as a staff in a company, but here I'm as a freelancer.

Do i need to add my tax info too or is it only for companies?

As i wrote in the first post in this thead, no matter how many times i checked my VAT, it says that it incorrect.

 

From what i read from your site in the tax info section : A VAT number is requested from all persons located in a country where Upwork supports VAT.

 

So I have to contact my local tax office and ask them to add my VAT number in their databases?

Thanks Valeria, it has been approved now. Doesn't look like the format the upwork website said it should be, but it's been approved so I'm not going to argue ๐Ÿ™‚

How did you end up solving your problem? I'm facing the same.
