Hi, I am based in the UK (and citizen). I am working for a US client and have filled out a W8-BEN form. I am a little confused by what my obligations are. Do I need to set aside 30% of my earnings to pay a US tax bill at the end of the year?

No, you have to set aside money to pay your UK tax bill... You won't owe any US taxes, but you will owe UK taxes.
