Hi, I'm James. I just joined oDesk last night. I live in Southern California. I'm not sure what types of services I can offer here. I could do data entry. I considered listing "Personal Assistant" on my profile, but I'm not sure if I am qualified enough for that. I'm good at doing a wide range of things. I can make phone calls, compare prices, work with spreadsheets, write letters, schedule events, make travel plans. I type 40 - 80 WPM on average. I don't know formal accounting, but I can keep track of financial information. I'm good at thinking outside the box, and I like to solve problems. I'm not sure if my current computer system will allow me to use oDesk without hiccups. My laptop is about 6 years old, but it's still working. I'm running the Lucid Lynx operating system (an Ubuntu OS). I can't use Windows or MS Office. I can use Google Docs, Open Office, and plaintext files. I'm looking for some concise and useful advice from freelancers who have been successful here on oDesk. Thank you, James

Always keep your powder dry. Warm the pot before making tea. If you can work linux well, try looking at sysadmin and system maintenance entry and personal assistant jobs don't pay very much on oDesk.

To do list for you: -Take the oDesk readiness test -Take a few oDesk tests that are related to your skills -Read the contractor's manual -Read up on the following links and learn them by heart (you did say you like learning in your profile, plus, these are MUST READ STUFF anyway) Good luck! -From a client and fellow freelancer
