I think that clients should have to write 400 characters and provide more details before being able to post a job. I am so tired of wading through offers that are barely one sentence and provide no information at all about the job. I think the posting process should be more stringent to weed out some of these useless posts.
I don't know their internal process, but it would be interesting if instead of Upwork sending freelancers emails to push us to apply to these gigs, if instead they would identify them and ping the client and offer some suggestions for an improvement in their job details. It could even be automated and point them to content that helps them identify why they aren't getting good proposals (or few proposals). Maybe they already do?
But if you think about it, clients are probably just as lost as we are when we hit the site and don't know where to start. It's a huge learning curve.
