What did you break this time?

1. Why does my profile no longer show up when searching online?

I tried my full name + Upwork in several seach engines: nada, nix, nothing.

I used the image search: nada, nix, nothing

I searched for text from my profile: nada, nix, nothing

2. I tried to look for segments stolen from my profile, but the in-Upwork search function only works on the the "All work" profiles.

3. And why did you change "General Translation" to "General Translation Services"? These are two entirely different things.

Hi Jennifer,

I checked and your profile comes up in freelancer search on Upwork as well as in Google when searching by keywords. Unfortunately, we can't advise on how Google indexes pages in their engine.

From time to time, we evaluate and update the specialties and skills listed on Upwork to reflect the current trends and talents that freelancers offer. Often, these updates involve simple renaming, merging, and corrections to streamline the user experience. For more information check this help article.

Thank you!

Great, my results differ. But since I have asked other people to check, the result might have changed.

But what about searching my image or snippits from my profile outside Upwork?

And what about:

2. I tried to look for segments stolen from my profile, but the in-Upwork search function only works on the the "All work" profiles.

3. And why did you change "General Translation" to "General Translation Services"? These are two entirely different things.

Hi Jennifer,

If you're referring to Google search or reverse image search on Google, I won't be able to advise on this in detail and Google's help documentation and support would be a better place for this.

When running a freelancer search with specific category and specialty filters, like this for example, the results will include Specialized Profiles.

I encourage you to check out the help article I shared earlier for more information about the recent update to categories.

Thank you!

1. Why not annouce these changes in the annoucement thread?

2. If Upwork want to improve the names for translation categories, don't make up names. The fields are called "Legal Translation", "Technical Translation", and "Medical Translation". That is what clients will be looking for. And if you offer these fields, make sure the freelancer in these fields are qualified in these fields.

3. Why didn't you add "Literary Translation"?

Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for your feedback. I'll make sure to share this with the team so that they can review it.

I did the test about what Jennifer says, and the same thing happens to me.
Searching by text of any of the profiles, in Upwork I don't appear, and in Google only with the text of the general profile.

Forget about question 1.

What about

2. I tried to look for segments stolen from my profile, but the in-Upwork search function only works on the the "All work" profiles.

3. And why did you change "General Translation" to "General Translation Services"? These are two entirely different things. "General Translation Services" is maybe Level 2 but never Level 3.

I got an email asking me to selection and asnwer as solution. I am still waiting for an answer why the specialist profiles are no longer searchable.

It might sound repetitive but I still want to know why our specialised profiles cannot be searched.

Just an example: I found the sentence "Innovation and diversification is the key to keeping business afloat." in a General Virtual Assistant profile. When I searched for it, I got two profile that used the sentence in the All Work profile, but not the "original" profile. It is quite obvious whos profile it the real original but if that freelancer would search for the sentence, she would get the impression that her overview was just stolen by one other freelancer, which is obviously not the truth.

Hi Jennifer,

As Bojan noted in his reply above, Specialized Profiles are included in search results when the client specifies which category and specialfy they're looking in by applying filters.

If the client runs a general search for a phrase/keyword with no information about which category they're searching in, the search results will show General Profiles (All Work.)
