What do you do if you have available funds for a job you didn't do?

A book was set up for me to do but my client then asked me to do a different job.  This has left funds available for a job I won't be doing. Do I need to refund the fees or can I just cancel the contract?

Is it a contract with nothing paid on it (so the client hired you for the "different job" on another contract? ) or is there just money "left over" in Escrow on one contract?

In other words - were there 2 contracts or 1? This determines what you should do next.
