What does the number of applicants mean in the proposal description?

I would like to know what does the number of applicants mean in the following page (Bottom Right part/ under History)?
This page is shown after I submit a new proposal.

It means the number of applicants for the job who have not yet been either declines, archived or hired.

Is my application counted as one of the total applications?
In other words, does 2 applicants mean that there are one applicant other than me?

No way of knowing that. If the client has archived your proposal, it would not be included in that number. Also, that number always lags behind.

In general it makes sense to apply and then forget about it until and unless a client actually contacts you.
