What gets work?

I am just a simple Microsoft expert, with my score in tests to prove the same, even for clients checking me out, and I have offered to work for almost nothing, $5. Even sent a sample of my job done, wherein the prospecting client sees the code, for free. Yet, for years, since enrolling, my total earnings is only $5! Now Upwork agency, that I can think of setting up to solicit work with my freelancing peers in India and Bangkok, also charges $20 a month. so that route is also beyond my capacity to pay. Please suggest alternate way to help networking on upwork.Or simply, even to get work!

Not everyone is meant to be a freelancer on Upwork. This is not the right choice for most people. And that's okay.

If you send them the code to view for free, why would they then hire and pay you? That's not how freelancing platforms work.
