What happens if the client doesn't mark the project as complete after it ends?

Hi,

Just wanted to check what happens in cases such as this? I recently finished the work for a fixed price project effectively. However my client has not replied in a few days. I realize its the weekend and he probably might not be available due to some circumstances.

In any case I would like to know what my options are in situations like this? Any information would be highly appreciated

James:

I have been hired to do a fixed-price contract.

I have finished the work.

I go here: Upwork -> Reports -> Overview

I look at the bottom of the page: "Fixed price milestones in progress"

I click on the contract I finished the work for.

Then I click on the green "Submit Work for Payment" button.

Then I submit the work files, or a note about where the files are.

Then one of three things will happen:

- the cient will manually release payment

- the client does NOTHING and Upwork releases the payment to me AUTOMATICALLY

[or]

- the client will ask for changes, which is an acceptable thing to do if I did not complete the agreed-upon task... I'll finish the task and then re-submit

I don't think it matters one way or another in terms of JSS.

Of course, if the client has disappeared and never closes the contract or leaves feedback, then you will not have feedback appear on your profile page. But most of us have some of those.

Be sure to use the Submit Work / Request Payment button immediately, if you have not done so already.

Hi Preston,

That's the thing, I dont see an option for requesting payment. Am I missing something?

I see, in that case, I suppose the issue is more that there is no active milestone. We were working on a chapter by chapter milestone but the last few ones were not created.

I've submitted a milestone change request for the remainder of the fee but it seems that needs client approval.

Also on that note, I just saw that the client has approved the change request and payment is pending! Thank you guys for the responses 😃 I appreciate all the information shared here.

Looks like this is going to be an awesome community to be in

Cheers

Then stop working until the client funds and activates the milestone(s.)
