What is really meant by adding portfolio to profiles

Dear fellow freelancers:

I have often come across "portfolio" in editing profiles.   Does portfolio mean that a freelancer has been equipped with multiple skills that can be "weighed" in his or her profile.?   How to add portfolio,  to incorporate work examples,  former clients or employers' positive comments?

Hope anyone can help me out in this respect.

Thank you for your message. Your portfolio may help you impress potential clients with real-life examples of your skills and expertise. You can describe the work you did and add relevant skills for projects you’ve completed.
