It sometimes happens. Most likely it is a technical glitch. Check again in a few hours. It should be back to normal again. You can also check your membership status--free membership--connects detail.
If you go to your Membership & Connects page (Settings > Membership & Connects), you will see your Connects History, and your Current Billing Cycle. Your connects will be credited to your account after the last day of your billing cycle. If you think you need more connects, you may opt to upgrade your membership plan to a freelancer plus plan.
