I was looking for a topic to report some errors connected to this subject. But first of all here's what I think about the question:
There are two kind of invitations I've meet so far. The original one is what you're asking about. In that case the client browses the the freelancers and send invitations for the ones she/he likes. I found that they are usualy send a lot of invitations for beeing sure they find the best. I also found that they usualy stick to the one who repiles first, so the most of the invited freelancers don't receive any reaction. (This is why I avoid to apply any job with active interview, but that's a different story.)
There's an another kind of invitation mentioned by John K. An Upwork talent specialist could invite you on behalf of a new client. Since I'm top rated I have received three invitations like this. I think the client sees these applications as a usual proposal but I'm not sure about it (so it couldn't even be considered as an invitation).
Ok here's my problem about this "guided" invitaton. When I accept the interview I can't attach any images like I can do normaly. Absolutely no place for the images. (Or any other kind of files of course.) The another problem with these "interviews" is there are NO interviews. The job takes place in the "active candidacy" list but no chat window at all. You can't talk to the client and nothing happens. And it counts as an interview on the job, at least is seems to.
I know it's not an official topic but maybe someone can tell me where to report these problems.
Both issues you are referring to (adding attachments when replying to invites and creation of interview rooms) are known and our engineers are working on fixing both.
Sorry about the inconvenience.
